When I was a student, I had a part-time job in a nursing home, cleaning room, and I met plenty of elderly people. Some could walk. Some couldn’t. Some were lucid. Some were in another world, suffering from dementia. But the majority were big time solitary. They would never smile… or even laugh.
Once in a while, they had activities, for socializing. But most of their time was spent in their rooms, feeling alone. So when I came and clean their room, I was like a ray of sunshine.
They would talk to me and express how they felt.
